Why bother vacuuming when the Roomba 630 is around? A more affordable alternative from iRoomba, this model also uses a triple stage cleaning mechanism to deal with dirt, pet hair and debris automatically adjusting as per the floor changes. It makes use of AeroVac technology that helps maximize the air inside the cleaning head to clear debris and pull hair out of the way. Add to this the larger bin size and you no longer need to empty it too often. It even packs in brushes that are tough and designed to handle hard debris better. The Roomba 630 also features all the iRobot’s impressive home based technologies such as the iAdapt that gives it the intelligence to clean your room without supervision, even in tight spaces and in dirty areas. Finally, the Virtual Wall lets you confine the robot to particular spaces or areas if you don’t want it to clean the entire house. Once done it automatically comes back to the Home Base and recharges itself.

Our Review:

Carpet:

The Roomba 630 is a definite improvement over the 500 series but compared to the 700 series, it lacks a bit of teeth. On carpet, in a single pass, it cleans at best 70 percent of the area and about only 60 percent deep but with multiple passes, which the machine thinks up randomly using some sort of weird algorithm, it manages to tackle almost 98 percent of the area with an efficiency of over 90 percent, which is definitely much better than some manual vacuums. The only complain is the fact that on deep piled carpets, it tends to take much longer probably because it treats, rugs, carpets and deep pile all the same.

Bare Floors:

Linoleum floors, tiled floors, marbles or anything else, the iRobot Roomba 630 breezes past them all with ease travelling at a decent pace, turning, gyrating around and picking up dust, pet hair from here and there. In short, the 630 with its slightly superior technology than the older generation works well on bare floor or at least as well as it does on carpet.

Airflow Strength:

The iRobot Roomba 630 uses a triple stage AeroVac Advanced Cleaning Head with AeroVac filters, which compared with the Series 2 Cleaning Head and HEPA Filters on higher models is a bit underpowered. Moreover, the bin is smaller and not that efficiently designed so expect a gradual drop in airflow strength as it starts filling up. Nevertheless, the Roomba 630 is quite capable of tackling moderate pet hair accumulation.

Noise:

Super silent is the best definition of the noise the iRobot Roomba 630 makes. You can actually set it up to perform its chores in the night as you hit the bed and wake up to a squeaky clean house. The only sounds it makes is to call for help if it manages to get stuck somewhere or is unable to reach its Home Station because of a closed door.

Ease Of Use:

Can it be any easier than pressing the Clean button and letting it go? The iRobot Roomba 630 uses iAdapt technology, the same type seen in its 700 series and higher 600 series. This technology does all the thinking for it and helps it clean every area using multiple passes. In fact, it is so easy to clean under hard-to-reach furniture that you may just convert into an ardent iRobot fan. Once your home is prepared for the new robot, it doesn’t require any more effort to keep the house clean. Your robot will, on schedule, go through the house, transitioning from carpet to hard floor and clean it thoroughly as long as it has an empty bin.

When required, the included virtual wall helps to limit it to a single room or prevent access to a particular room such as your office space that is littered with lots of wires.

Pet Hair:

Just because it is automated doesn’t mean it can’t tackle pet hair. In fact, the iRobot Roomba 630 is quite adept at removing pet hair even from deep piled carpet.

Conclusion:

For those who have never seen a robotic vacuum in action, it is hard to imagine how one works. The iRobot Roomba 630 is the least expensive modern generation robot available from iRobot making it a perfect gizmo for novices. Try the 630 out for at least a year and experience the change it brings with full automation before you go out and purchase a more advanced, superior and expensive robot for your domestic cleaning needs.
