The Makita BCL180W at first appeared to me like a white submarine except it was just 18-3/4 inches long and weighed 2.7 pounds. This unique design with a longer snout helps in decreased operator fatigue while its ergonomic soft grips help keep it in precise control for longer. This handheld vacuum from Makita maintains charge for long with its 18V LXT Li-ion batteries that run further and discharge slower than usual. The batteries have a lower 5X self discharge that operates with 2.5x more cycles. This handheld operates with a bagless 2 stage cloth based filtration system that helps in capturing the smallest kind of debris possible with quicker disposal. As for helping clean every possible kind of surface the Makita BCL 180W works great with the snout like long nozzle.

Our Review:

Carpet:

The long snout helps getting deep into carpet and can tackle lots of dust or debris at once without feeling like an overwhelming task. My only complaint though is that it tends to lose its suction power real quickly because of the tiny dust bag.

Bare Floors:

This is where it excels the most and will astonishingly pick up nuts and bolts if left lying around. On my first run, I saw a stray washer on the floor and when I bent to pick it up with the Makita BCL 180W, it accidentally got sucked in from the sides. You won’t ever need another handheld vac and with the longer snout, it does help in handling some cleaning activities that are otherwise difficult with conventional handheld vacuums.

Hose Airflow Strength:

With 7.8 to 10 Volt being the norm, having a 18 Volt battery powering the vacuum does show its immense hose airflow strength. No questions, this baby can easily suck anything in its way, including loose light fabric.

Noise:

For a large handheld, it does make an equally impressive noise. I won’t say that this handheld is quite but it is livable with at best.

Ease Of Use:

Nothing really to worry or bother with, it is a simple vacuum cleaner to use. Either use the long snout or detach it to get right at the dirty areas. Switch it on, clean the bags, charge it and reuse it. The Makita BCL 180W is a hardworking vacuum designed for strenuous usage.

Pet Hair:

Like I said before, this vacuum can pick up anything and everything in its way including pet hair, dander and mites. You won’t ever find it leaving any stray strand of hair behind in its path.

Conclusion:

Slightly larger than conventional handheld vacuums, the Makita BCL 180W is actually designed to handle long arduous cleaning tasks, take along in the car, on camping trips or just lie around as a backup cleaner to a larger upright or canister model. This is a dependable rechargeable vac that anyone will love having around.
